11.12.41.. at about 16.00 hours P. S. A32 Dowman volunteered with L. S. A28 Hutchinson and several Indian Police Constables for duty at Ma Tau Kok Ordnance Pier where they remained until about 23.59 hours assisting the Military in evacuation. They came over to

ong Kong that night. L. S. A98 Michie also volunteered for rear-guard duty & was sent with L. S. A107 Willison, Y. C.I.D. and three Indian Constables to Kowloon Docks, Lain Gate, where he re- mained until 22.00hen he came over to liong Kong with the "Canadian Troops. During his passage by car to Kowloon Docks he had to shoot his way by Thompson Gun through a hostile crowd of about 300 Chinese males who attempted to hold up the car in Ta Ku Street. During his duty at the Main Gate of the Docks his party was sniped at in the darkness from the hillside. Police returned the fire and on several occasions attacked up the hillside and cleared the snipers out.

Indian Police Constable B549, (name unknown) attached to the party dis- played zeal and determination in these attacks on the snipers."

(This recommendation has already been made by Mr. Calthrop in Paragraph 1(b) except for Indian folice Constable B549.)

Guarding of the Kowloon City & Ma Tau Kok Piers on December 11th.

"L. S. A188 Summers was also a volunteer and was employed as he knew how to operate No. 17 Motor Boat. The motor boat stayed with me at Kowloon City Ferry Pier till we left again. Le rendered valuable assistance by taking the two parties to Kowloon City & Ma Tau Kok Piers.

lie was fully aware of the potential danger of the enterprise."

"P. S. A50 Mattison, P. S. A44 Blackburn, and L. S. Al84 Fyffe assisted me to their best ability, this I highly appreciated. They turned out at all hours of the night for waterfront patrols, flashing lights, alledged Fifth Columnists, looting or

anything whatsoever. Sergeants Mattison &

Blackburn did this in addition to their Charge Room duties. Sergeant Fyffe was with me for only about one week but worked very well during that period."
